Scientific Name: Turraeanthus africanus
Common Names: apeya, engan, African satinwood
Market Availability: Avaliable from quality hardwood speciality distributors.
Properties: Avodire is a medium density and has a low resistance to shock loads. Machines well with both machine and hand tools. It has good gluing and screw holding properties.
Grows: Tropical West Africa, averages 115ft tall and 2'-3' diameter
Color Specifications:

Little distinction between sapwood and heardwood. Wood can be creamy-white to pale yellow, but darkens with expoosure to air and light and turns a golden yellow. Avodire has a wavy or interlocked grain which produces a pleasing figure, either striped, mottled or curled.
