FSC, NAUF, CARB Phase II Certified - Thermally Fused Melamine
(Panels may contribute to LEED® credits)
Metro Hardwoods stocks Metro UltraGreen Thermally Fused Melamine panels. These panels are Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), no added urea formaldehyde (NAUF), and CARB Phase II Certified. Panels are manufactured from post-industrial or pre-consumer recycled wood fiber -- the particleboard typically contains 90% wood fiber, and 10% resin, on a dry weight basis. This is important to note for LEED projects as the resin is not recycled material and therefore is deducted when calculating LEED NC MR 4 Recycled Content.
NAUF is the current requirement of formaldehyde content in melamine (composite wood panels) to contribute to LEED NC Credit EQ 4.4 Low-Emitting Materials. The Metro UltraGreen panels, beyond NAUF are CARB Phase II Certified. This ensures the panels meet the most stringent formaldehyde emission standards in the world.
Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certification ensures the wood residues come from sustainably harvested forests; FSC standards also promote socially acceptable, environmentally conscious and economically viable forest management. Certification provides a credible link from certified forests to our customers. FSC products may also contribute to LEED Certified Wood Credits.
Metro Hardwoods stocks the largest breadth and depth of FSC, NAUF, CARB Phase II Certified melamine in the Midwest.
Description
Metro UltraGreen Melamine panels consist of melamine, resin saturated decorative papers, thermally fused under heat
and pressure to a substrate of Metro UltraGreen particleboard, or Metro UltraGreen MDF (medium density fiberboard).
The thermally fused melamine (TFM) process permanently bonds the paper and the board, leaving no glue line to delaminate.
Key Features
Melamine has excellent surface properties, is less expense than HPL and because the decorative paper is permanently bonded to the substrate it eliminates:
- delaminating or “peel back”
- glue or pressing equipment
- solvent emission from drying glue
- disposal of hazardous chemicals
- labor required to lay up high pressure laminates
Panel Backs
Metro UltraGreen panels are available with decorative faces, two sides, or with a white or brown melamine saturated
balancing backer sheet. A glueable backer is also available for panels which require high pressure laminate or other materials.
